Lab Test : Measurement of a Turbulent Jet Impinging on a Flat Plate

The exit of a fluid jet from an opening or nozzle into an environment filled with the same or another fluid is one of the most interesting fluid flows in terms of flow physics and technological applications.

A free jet (Figure 1a) is one that exits into an environment and is not affected by the nature of the environment or any nearby obstacles. The jet that will be studied here is an impingement jet (Figure 1b) – thus not a free jet, as it impinges upon a flat plate normal to the jet’s main axis. This type of jet is related to applications such as surface cooling, turbine blade cooling, air conditioning, VTOL aircraft etc.
