Wind Energy
Wind energy is a clean and renewable energy source. Wind Tunnel testing of wind turbines in connection to CFD calculations, can improve the understanding of the physics mechanisms of the energy conversion process, aiming at optimizing wind turbine designs and minimizing the energy cost. Parameters that can be studied during a wind turbine design include blade airfoil aerodynamics, wind turbine aerodynamics and aeroelasticity, control systems efficiency.
A long experince is gained via the participation of NTUA Fluids Section in numerous EU research projects covering a variety of topics from the aerodynamic performance of a single wind turbine up to the wake analysis of a wind farm in the case of a complex terrain or an offshore installation.
